Children
learn Italian through song, rhyme, movement, props, stories and crafts. Young
children can learn easily in the native language they are studying so
translation is only used minimally and occasionally for instructions for
some crafts or new activities. This is a time of natural language
acquisition. There is no better time to introduce a second language and
there are several additional cognitive benefits associated with early
second language learning. Click here to read more about the "Benefits of Early Secondary Language Learning."
Parents/caregivers
are provided with handouts including: vocabulary lists, expressions,
and words to songs and rhymes so that they may reinforce the lesson
topics at home.

I have composed and/or translated simple songs to teach a variety of subjects
such as colors, numbers, shapes, days of the week, getting dressed, and seasonal changes like leaves
or snow falling, etc. Just like the famous "alphabet" song - so much
more can be learned with a melody!
A craft is the culminating activity
and is either seasonally appropriate or related to the lesson topic.
Crafts are age-appropriate and reinforce many preschool fundamentals and
fine motor control advancement.
I strive to keep
students of similar exposure and/or ability together. Thus, my classes
are small as I keep in mind what is most beneficial to the student. This is one of
many ways I differentiate myself from my competitors.
